My name is Laura Silvia Battaglia. I'm a freelancer video journalist and documentarist. I was born in Sicily in 1974. I worked for 20 years as editor in italian printed media and radio networks (Avvenire and La Stampa national newspapers, Radio Tre Mondo, Radio Popolare network, Radio In Blu, Tgcom tv rolling channel, Lettera43 website) and now I'm an independent contributor of Transterra Media, an american-lebanese press agency, focused on video featured from Middle and Near East. I'm one of the contributors from Middle East (Iraq and Yemen) of the american website The Fair Observer, born to spread foreign policy analysis in the world. In Italy I work as documentarist for the news rolling italian channel "Rai News 24" and the National Tv Rai Channel 3, "Agenda del Mondo" features. I also write on the american magazine "Guernica. A Magazine of Art&Politics" (www.guernicamag.com) and I am senior news editor of the website "assaman.info" which focuses on the experience of Senegalese immigrants in Italy. Since 2007 I taught a course in the Master of Journalism at the Catholic University of Milan. I produced a variety of reportages from zones of conflict around the world, covering first-hand wars in Afghanistan, Jugoslavia and Lebanon, revolutions in Egypt and Libya, elections in Senegal and Guinea Conakry, the Syrian conflict through the tragedy of syrian refugees, and social and gender issues in Tunisia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Qatar, Yemen. I won the 2010 Giancarlo Siani award with the video "Maria Grazia Cutuli. Il prezzo della verità" and I was finalist for the 2010 Anello Debole and Claudio Accardi awards with my video "Sassi tra gli ulivi". I was also finalist for the 2008 Ilaria API award with the video "Latin Kings. I re della strada" and I won the 2008 Anello Debole award with "Latin Kings. I re della strada" and the 2012-2013 "Giornalisti del Mediterraneo Award" with other videos: "Al Hurria: l'altra faccia della libertà" and "Women of Abraham".
